Sick Child Policy
Parents are asked to notify the nurse if their child is diagnosed with a significant contagious illness. Any student who has a fever may not return to school until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. In the case where an antibiotic is required, the child must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.

Medication
The nurse may administrer Ibuprofin (Motrin) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) to a student, as needed for pain, if the parent provides a written doctor's order authorizing it.

NY State Health Exam RequirementsUpdate for 2024-2025 school year
NYS requires physical examinations with immunizations for new students and students entering PreK, K,1,3,5 and 7. The exams must be done between 9/1/24 to 9/30/25 Students in grades 2,4, and 8 must be up to date with their immunizations. Students age 11 or older entering grade
NY State requires physicals and immunizations be done within the last year before the first day of school for new students and all students entering Grade PreK or K, 1, 3, 5, 7.
6 must have a Tdap booster. All students entering grade 7 must have the meningococcal vaccine. These physical examinations and immunizations are due by the end of September.
A licensed health care provider must use and sign the required New York State Health Exam Form. The new Exam form has a section, on page 2, to indicate that the required Immunization Record is attached or recorded in NYSIIS online database.
The completed NY State State Health Exam form is due within the first 2 weeks of the start of school. If the form is not handed in during that time period, the student will not be allowed to participate in physical education.

Dental Exam
New York State law permits schools to request a dental examination in the following grades: school entry, K, 1, 3, 5, and 7.
